Huvitz, a Global Leader in Eye Care Technology, Unveils World’s First Lens-Over-Frame Sunglass Edger ‘HPE-990’ Huvitz Co., Ltd. (CEO Hyunsoo Kim), a global eye care solutions provider, has announced the launch of the HPE-990, a premium lens edger that supports lens-over-frame sunglass processing—a world first. With the increasing use of digital devices across all age groups leading to a global rise in myopia, and eyewear becoming more of a fashion statement, the HPE-990 is recognized as a product that seamlessly combines cutting-edge lens processing technology with stylish design innovation.
Rising Myopia in the Digital Age and Eyewear as Fashion Fuel Demand for Customization in the Optical Market
The global eyewear market—along with Korea’s—continues to show steady growth. This is largely driven by the widespread use of digital devices such as smartphones and tablets from an early age, leading to a consistent rise in myopia cases worldwide. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), over 50% of the global population is projected to be myopic by 2050. In addition, eyewear is increasingly being viewed not just as a tool for vision correction, but as a fashion accessory. As a result, global demand is rising for customized eyewear that combines both style and functionality.
A Premium Lens Edger That Meets the Evolving Trends of the Eyewear Market
As demand grows for advanced technologies capable of processing high-end eyewear frames and lenses, the Huvitz HPE-990 positions itself as a premium lens edger built to meet the needs of today’s optical professionals. It supports precise edging of a wide range of lens materials and frame types, including luxury models. Designed with a focus on processing stability, the HPE-990 enhances both functionality and real-world workflow efficiency for opticians. Its sleek black finish and sophisticated design also complement modern optical store interiors, blending performance with aesthetics.
Supports Advanced Styles, Including Lens-Over-Frame Sunglasses
The HPE-990 is designed to keep pace with evolving eyewear trends, offering high-precision edging for a wide variety of lenses and even the most uniquely shaped high-end frames. One of its standout features is the Deep Step Bevel function, which allows processing up to 20mm in depth. This enables accurate edging of challenging designs such as high-curve goggles, sports sunglasses, and even lens-over-frame sunglasses—previously difficult to process with conventional machines.
Improved Stability and Upgraded Power for All Lens Types
The HPE-990 takes lens processing stability to the next level. Equipped with a newly designed extra-large clamp and Xtra Large block adapter, it securely holds a wide range of lenses—including specialty and coated lenses—ensuring precise, distortion-free processing without any axis misalignment.
The HPE-990 features a wheel motor that is 1.7 times more powerful and 1.5 times faster than its predecessor, the HPE-910, enabling rapid processing of various materials. Additionally, with the Scan&Cut shape data editor and retouching functions, operators can achieve precise finishing work, enhancing both user convenience and the overall quality of the processed lenses.
Huvitz unveiled the HPE-990 for the first time at the world’s largest optical trade show, MIDO 2025 in Italy this past February, receiving high praise from European buyers. The company plans to expand global sales, with upcoming launches in France this May and North America in August. In particular, demand in the rapidly growing North American lens edging market is expected to rise significantly.
A representative from Huvitz stated, “Eyewear is no longer just about function; customization to suit individual style is now a global trend.” They added, “We expect the HPE-990, as a premium lens edger that delivers results satisfying both consumers and opticians, to receive a strong response in international markets.”
